4th annual `Love Me Because…' event surpasses goals

"Love Me Because…," P.A.W.S. of Michigan's annual adoption event/fundraiser, passed a milestone at its Feb. 2, 2013, event held at Hood's Do-It Best Center in Wyandotte, Michigan. The event raised $12,500, which exceeded expectations by more than twenty percent, and was more than twice the amount raised in 2012. The additional funds, said event co-chair Terra Pollack Muscat, came from a combination of a silent auction, a raffle, and sale of event tee-shirts and baked goods donated by volunteers.

In addition, nine animals--five dogs and four cats--were adopted during the event, and another four pending adoptions were processed over the following week. The three local Downriver rescues represented at "Love Me Because…," P.A.W.S. of Michigan, Shelter to Home, and the Wyandotte Animal Pound, each placed animals through the event. As a result, thirteen hard-to-place dogs and cats went to their forever homes--a figure very near the fifteen animals adopted during the 2012 event.

For those who missed the event but are still interested in giving a special-needs animal a lifelong home, "Love Me Because…" sponsors a "Pet of the Week" on its Facebook page.
