In 2010, Chelsea King was fatally attacked by a sexual predator while on a run in Rancho Bernardo Community Park. Chelsea's life was cut far too short, but her passion for running is held alive in the San Diego community during this annual event.
Hosted by Chelsea's Light Foundation, this annual 5k and family fun run/walk raises money for the foundation which provides scholarships for youth as well as provides support to spread the word of Chelsea's law. With the increasing number of reported sexual crimes, Chelsea's Law aids fighting these crimes. In summary, Chelsea's Law increases penalties, parole provisions, and oversight for the worst of the worst sex offenders in society — the violent sexual predator that attacks children.
On Saturday March 1, 2014, the San Diego community will gather once again in support of Chelsea and all other victims of violent sexual crimes. The event will take place in Balboa Park, a place where Chelsea practiced with the San Diego Youth Symphony as well as a place she loved to visit. A family festival, children's activities entertainment and refreshments will all be a part of this community run. For registration and details, click here.
