One magical day in May, ladies across the country put on oversized hats and fun dresses while men suit up in their best spring attire to watch the horses race. This day is simply known as Derby Day and it encourages folks everywhere to host parties, enjoy mint juleps and celebrate one of the nation’s oldest pastimes.
Every day of the year children throughout the nation are diagnosed with Autism. In fact, Autism occurs in 1 out of every 91 births and odds are that you or someone you know has been touched by Autism. For those diagnosed, and their families, every day of learning, communicating and playing is truly a magical day.
Saturday, May 7, these two things will converge in the name of one amazing cause.
The folks at Loyal Source (an Orlando based Healthcare and Defense Contractor) are hosting the 4th Annual Derby Day Party at Orlando’s Wall Street Plaza. Through the support of Loyal Source and the dedication of UCF CARD (Center for Autism and Related Diseases) and PALS(Providing Autism Links & Support) all proceeds from this event will benefit the Center for Autism and it’s amazing Camp Two-Can -- a four week summer camp for children with Autism. Camp Two-Can provides a safe and fun place for children with Autism to go and interact with non-disabled peers- learning, playing and socializing.
For a donation of $50 (per person), Derby Day guests can enjoy a day of open bars, mint juleps, auction items, raffle prizes, a buffet and the Kentucky Derby on the big screen while making a difference in the lives of those with Autism. Last year this inspiring event raised over $18,000!
Companies and those interested may also help to sponsor the event. Different levels of sponsorship include VIP tables, your company logo on t-shirts and banners and complimentary guest passes.
Donations are also welcome for those who cannot attend but wish to make a difference, as your generous contributions are really the driving force that will truly make an impact in the life of a family affected by Autism.
So fellas, put on those seersuckers and ladies don the biggest hat you can find for this undoubtedly fun and good-hearted event.
