Fans of 4J Studios’ Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft will soon be getting a new mash-up pack for the popular sandbox creation game. The developer confirmed on April 29 that they are now working on the next add-on pack, but they aren’t yet discussing what the theme of the DLC will be at this time.
Gamers will remember previous mash-up pack offerings for Minecraft: Xbox 360 as the paid add-ons which blended the world of Minecraft with other popular gaming franchises. For example, one of the first packs released was the Mass Effect Mash-up Pack that merged the setting of Bioware’ popular science fiction series. The blocks of Minecraft were altered to look like they belonged to the Mass Effect universe as was the visual looks of player avatars and NPC mobs. Additionally, the game's UI was modified in order to mimic the Bioware title and the DLC added music from the Mass Effect soundtrack.
Later, fans of the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft also received a Skyrim themed mash-up pack that was inspired by the latest entry in Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series. Similarly to the Mass Effect Mash-up Pack, the Skyim pack also revamped the world of Minecraft to look like it game from the popular role-playing game. Once again, 4J Studios has revealed that they are now making a new mash-up pack but what popular intellectual property will be the focus of the upcoming DLC is being kept quiet.
It is also unknown at this point if the DLC in production, or any of the past mash-up packs, will become available on the PS3 edition of Minecraft which launched late last year. In addition to the current versions of the block-building title, 4J Studios is also developing new-gen editions of Minecraft that are expected to release later this year. It has already been revealed that the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 versions of Minecraft will allow players to import their world saves from the current console Minecraft games.
