49ers stockpiling draft picks, trade Alex Smith to Chiefs

Now that Colin Kaepernick is officially the quarterback of the future the San Francisco 49ers are going to be very busy this offseason.

When the league year begins on March 12th, FoxSports.com‘s Jay Glazer has reported the Kansas Chiefs will acquire Alex Smith.

The 49ers will receive Kansas City’s second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft which is No. 34 overall and also a similar pick in 2014.

This gives the 49ers five picks in the first three rounds of the draft which now includes No. 31 and No. 34 overall.

As of now, they have a total of 15 selections including three compensatory selections.

As the 49ers stockpile draft picks it reminds me of a very similar situation we saw years ago when the New England Patriots were in their years of dominance. The question this time around is can the 49ers take advantage of these selections and add the right players?
