The 49ers had there best chance to sign Nnamdi Asomugha when he was in the building. Well, he left the building, but the 59ers remain a serious contender to sign the cornerback.
It is especially true the likelihood of Asomugha signing with the 49ers goes down even more when he starts visiting other teams.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is now visiting the Saints and that fact does not remove the 49ers from being contenders in the Nnamdi sweepstakes. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Asomugha has simply decided to take other visits as the process of picking a new team plays out.
It has been reported that the Cardinals, Texans, and Broncos are also interested.
Nnamdi will be entering into a poor market. Former Dolphins corner Sean Smith is getting the most so far at $6 million per year from the chiefs. Nnamdi already has $4 million in hand from the Eagles, which he'll keep on top of whatever else he can get from his next signing.
The reality is that Nnamdi may be wanting more than other teams are willing to offer, which may be the reason that no signing has happened at this time.
