The San Francisco 49ers selected C Marcus Martin out of USC with a third round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Martin is one of four projected draft picks the 49ers own in the third round.

Prepped at Crenshaw (Calif.) High, where he won two L.A. City championships. Cracked the lineup as a true freshman in 2011, starting the final 10 games at left guard. Started 10 of 12 games at left guard in 2012. Moved to center in 2013 and started all 13 games played. Dislocated his left kneecap and sustained a high left ankle sprain against UCLA, knocking him out of the Las Vegas Bowl against Fresno State. Team captain. Did not perform at the combine because of left knee injury (medical exclusion).

Martin will provide immediate competition for Daniel Kilgore, whom the 49ers recently extended through the 2017 season. He is a true center and not a swing-lineman like how Joe Looney and Adam Snyder have been. With Martin starting as a true freshman in 2011, he was one of the first to do so at USC since 2004.

The 49ers have three draft picks remaining in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
