Playing for the second time in Wembley Stadium since 2010, the 49ers game in London became a laugher as they embarrassed the Jaguars 42-10 in Week 8. The 49ers have now won five games in a row and will enter the bye week with a 6-2 record.
The 49ers scored early and often in the first half and never had to look back. On the second play from scrimmage, the 49ers tricked the Jaguars in leaving Bruce Miller open on the sideline for a 43-yard gain. They were able to convert a fourth down and the first touchdown of the game was by Frank Gore off a 19-yard read-option run.
Colin Kaepernick used Anquan Boldin for a 21-yard reception on the next possession on third down to keep the drive alive. He finished the drive with a 12-yard bootleg run to the left for a rushing touchdown and a 14-0 lead. The 49ers didn’t punt until late in the second quarter and added two more touchdowns from a pass to Vernon Davis and a second run by Kaepernick. Their first four possessions were all touchdown drives to go up 28-0.
Not only was the offense clicking to start, but the defense didn’t allow much from Chad Henne or Maurice Jones-Drew. They didn’t get a sack or turnover in the first half, but were effective in not giving up plays on third down. The 49ers offense was 4-6 on third downs in the first half.
The second half saw some action with Gore adding another touchdown and the Jaguars producing a touchdown of their own. Dan Skuta had the play of the second half when he recovered a forced fumble by Patrick Willis and ran 47 yards for the team’s final score of the game.
The 49ers will spend Week 9 on a bye week before hosting the Carolina Panthers in Week 10.
