I took the time on Twitter to answer your questions about the 49ers as we're midway through the season. Questions will be answered every four games. Here is the best of what I found at the mid-season point:
From @iRobert_GrossJr: When do you think Crabtree will be activated?
Michael Crabtree has been on schedule to return in November, which were the initial reports in May after suffering a torn Achilles tendon. Jim Harbaugh didn't say anything about an exact date, but told the media his rehab process is going well, indicating he is on schedule from the May reports.
Look for him to start practicing with the team after Week 10 or Week 11's games versus the Panthers or Saints. If I was guessing the day he comes back in uniform, It would be the Monday night game against the Washington Redskins in Week 12.
I wrote this immediately after the 49ers game ended against the Jaguars with two players already being cut. I see Nnamdi Asomugha getting cut in place of Eric Wright as the veteran CB has become a healthy scratch with Tramaine Brock rising to the occasion. As for Manningham, the 49ers could move Quinton Patton to the injured reserve if they feel his fractured foot will keep him off the field.
The 49ers are going to need to examine their core special teams player if they believe Patton still has a chance to contribute this year. Two players from the mix of Kassim Osgood, Anthony Dixon, Nate Stupar, Bubba Ventrone and Darryl Morris will need to be gone. My gut says Stupar and Ventrone were two of the last players to make the team, putting them as the first people to get cut for a situation like this.
The darkhorse to get cut would be veteran Craig Dahl, who has only been on special teams after losing the safety battle with Eric Reid.
The chances are slim if the offense continues to surge since the win over the Rams. There should be at least three NFL head coaching jobs open and Roman should be interviewed for one of those spaces. It's a matter of if he wants a new challenge or not, but with the 49ers offense continuing to be strong after five games, his chances of leaving the 49ers continues to increase.
