49ers offensive grades vs. Buccaneers in Week 15

See also

The 49ers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-14 on Sunday afternoon. Here are the grades for the offense:

Colin Kaepernick: A-

Kaepernick didn't light up the box score, but he made plays specifically on third down when he needed to. After going 11 for 13 in the first half, there were two key third downs he converted in the second half on the field goal drive that lasted 17 plays. Whether it was keeping plays alive with his legs or making throws, Kaepernick was clutch.

Running Backs: B+

Frank Gore had three runs of 10 yards or more and averaged 3.9 yards per carry. There were times he was stopped, but Gore made a few important cuts for positive plays throughout the game. Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James were both effective on the outside.

Wide Receivers: C+

Minus one impressive catch by Anquan Boldin, it was an otherwise mediocre game by the wide receivers. Colin Kaepernick gets the credit for keeping plays alive and throwing on the run. Michael Crabtree redeemed himself after being flagged for an absurd unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but Mario Manningham was ineffective for the whole game.

Tight Ends: B

Vernon Davis had one home run play for a 52-yard touchdown reception. He could have had a second had he tried diving for the ball. Garrett Celek was also involved with one reception for eight yards.

Offensive Line: B-

This wasn't the easiest game for the offensive line as Frank Gore was once stuffed on third and short. There were times Gerald McCoy had his ways against Adam Snyder, but the 49ers did a good job at pass protection overall. Kaepernick's elusiveness prevented more sacks as he kept plays alive.

Coaching: B

People will scrutinize how conservative Greg Roman was in the red zone, but the 49ers ended up improvising to make the plays needed in order to win. They didn't try to get pass happy and still stuck with the ground attack, which was a smart idea in the fourth quarter during the 10-minute drive. There are still problems to work on in the passing game, but for now, they're going to enjoy this win despite only two touchdowns on offense.
