49ers new kicker: Phil Dawson headed to 49ers after long run with the Browns

The 49ers new kicker is veteran Phil Dawson. Dawson was a mainstay in Cleveland where he kicked for the past 14 seasons.

According to Cleveland.com today, March 19, "The franchise’s most consistent performer since its return to Cleveland in 1999 agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers today."

Not the words Browns fans wanted to hear, but with some key signings already this off-season, Cleveland is slowly improving and may finally have the horses to run with the rest of the AFC North.

Dawson made his public announcement the only way people do nowadays - via his Twitter account. Dawson tweeted, "Hey, Cleveland. Thank you for a tremendous ride. Your love, support & encouragement have blessed me deeply."

Last season the 49ers veteran kicker David Akers struggled, and the fans let him hear it all season long. In 2013 the Niners should have no problems in the kicking department as Dawson has been one of the best and most consistent kickers over the past decade.
