With the start of the regular season around the corner, preparations at the 49ers' training camp are in high gear which has Colin Kaepernick excitedly optimistic, although his demeanor is anything but.
“The more weapons on this team the happier I am with all the receivers on the team.” Kaepernick said.
Who’s the surprise on the team? “Everyone, everyone’s gotten better.”
The addition of Jon Baldwin and the abundant number of receivers in camp, both rookies and seasoned vets, has the coaches and QB Colin Kaepernick, chomping at the bit to showcase the talents of last years Super Bowl attending 49ers.
.“Baldwin’s a big target with good hands. He’s easy to throw to. And, he’s learning the playbook quickly.”
“Obviously, the more reps we get, the better we’ll do and we have a lot of playmakers.”
He has a serious tone to his voice too, for a kid whose game experience can be measured on one set of hands.
“Last year I was trying to get on the field and this year I’m out here to get better.” Kaepernick reminded the inquisitive reporters, keeping things in perspective.
When asked about the protective black jersey Coach Harbaugh forced him to wear on his chiseled body starting Wednesday, he replied matter-of-factly, “Not a fan.”
Early this week, ESPN’s Ron Jaworski’s commented that he thought Kaepernick could possibly be the best quarterback of all time.
Kaepernick’s answer to what some felt was an outlandish statement, “I’m flattered and honored but I haven’t even played a full season yet.”
Offensive coordinator Greg Roman is pleased with training camp and looked eager to get the regular season underway.
Vernon (Davis), (Anquan)Boldin, and Colin are all pretty good leaders. They’re all working incredibly hard and I can only hope it’s setting a good example for the younger players, which I think it has,” Roman said.
There are 17 days until the first regular season game against the Green Bay Packers at Candlestick (in case anybody needs to be reminded).
