According to a Feb. 3 Inquisitr report, the 49ers had a flub in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Several team members were seen partying at a strip club, which the Inquisitr says led to criticism that the players were not taking preparations for the Super Bowl seriously.
A video obtained by TMZ shows 49ers team players, including Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree and Patrick Willis entering one of the purported best strip clubs on Bourbon street, the legendary Penthouse Club.
According TMZ, and in all fairness to the players, it is not clear whether the 49ers’ running back, wide receiver and linebacker visited the club to sample its famous “Naked Sushi” dish, which customers can reportedly eat off naked strippers, or whether they were just there to party. A club source told TMZ that approximately 120 strippers worked that night.
Another source familiar with the strip club scene in New Orleans told TMZ that “Penthouse Club is the real deal … but you have to a baller in that place. That’s a high-end spot.”
Whether or not Gore, Crabtree and Willis’ trip to a dancing/eating establishment cost them the game is completely up for debate. Especially if the Baltimore Raven’s players were in bed resting comfortably.
Another 49ers’ team highlight during Super Bowl week came from cornerback Chris Culliver, who stated that he would not welcome gay players in the locker room. He has since apologized for his comments.
