A 49ers fan died in a walkway fall this weekend, and though the stadium was alight at the big win, the drunken accident that led to a man in his 30s falling to his death in a sidewalk crash put a definite mar on the game, ABC reports this Sunday, Sept. 8. According to the report, a football fan was intoxicated while on a raised pedestrian walkway and fell onto the sidewalk below, dying before he could be taken to a hospital.
The 49ers fan was likely going to watch this weekend’s football game at Candlestick Park as the 49ers played against the Green Bay Packers. According to a San Francisco police officer, several people saw the man fall to his death from the elevated Jamestown walkway, which circles around the Candlestick stadium.
The witnesses say that the individual was a “drunken man” who at least appeared highly intoxicated when he suddenly stumbled and fell from the walkway only a couple minutes after kickoff today, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., crashing onto the sidewalk below. Medics and officers rushed on scene, giving the man first aid while an ambulance was called, but the individual was declared dead before it could arrive.
The 49ers’ later managed to beat the Packers with a 34-28 win, but as one witness added, “Seeing a guy fall to his death just put a mar on the game, man.”
The individual seemed to be in his early to mid 30s, and suffered blunt force injuries from the walkway fall. It hasn’t been confirmed how many feet the 49ers fan fell before his death, and his identity is currently not being disclosed until his family has been notified of this tragic event.
Although today's Sunday morning football was something enjoyed by many, the report concluded, it's still important to drink responsibly and celebrate responsibly as sports seasons begin once again this fall.
