A 49ers fan dies after a fall of at least a dozen feet at a 49ers football game against the Green Bay Packers this weekend, say witnesses at the scene. The man seemed to be intoxicated when he fell to his death on the Jamestown walkway to the sidewalk below, Yahoo! News confirms this Monday, Sept. 9.
The 49ers fan that died is believed to have stumbled and fallen to his death while making his way across the upwardly pedestrian walkway this Sunday during the 49ers’ last season opener at Candlestick Park, the San Francisco football stadium, police note. The fatal fall occurred only moments after the afternoon’s kickoff.
Several witnesses and fellow 49ers fans at the football game called 911 to report the man. He was said to look and act intoxicated before falling and crashing to the ground sidewalk below.
According to the report, a spokesman for the San Francisco police said that both medics and officers on scene tried to keep the 49ers fan alive, but the man had sustained such serious injuries from the fall that he was pronounced dead before an emergency ambulance could make it.
Although the 49ers fan who died has had his identity confirmed, the man’s name will not be released until his family is officially notified for privacy reasons. Details surrounding the fall, despite witness accounts, have not been confirmed at this time.
"We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," said the 49ers spokesman in an email, adding that the football team had learned of the fan’s death following the game.
