49ers extend Anthony Davis through 2019

The 49ers and RT Anthony Davis signed a five-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2019 season. This new contract is worth $39.296 million with $17 million guaranteed, according to Pro Football Talk. For the 2013 season, he will earn $1.3 million in base salary.

General manager Trent Baalke released the following statement on this extension:

"Anthony is a very hard working, dedicated and talented young player who has earned the respect of our entire organization. Having already made significant strides early in his career, Anthony is just beginning to realize his full potential. We look forward to watching him achieve even greater results in the years to come."

Davis, 23, was one of two first-round draft picks in 2010 where the 49ers traded up two spots at No. 11 overall to take him. He is one of two linemen (Alex Boone being the second) who was on the field for every snap during the 2012 season, according to stats.com.

After having a slow start in his rookie season with 10 penalties, Davis made significant progress by reducing the penalties each year. He had seven penalties in 2011 and only five last season. In 2012, he was penalized for only one holding and one false start penalty.

Davis is one of many players whose initial contract was scheduled to end after the 2014 season. This group includes 2009 draft pick Michael Crabtree, fellow 2010 first-round draft pick Mike Iupati and 2011 draft picks Colin Kaepernick and Aldon Smith. The team cannot negotiate extensions for Kaepernick and Smith until the end of the 2013 season.
