Vic Fangio said on Thursday afternoon that Glenn Dorsey's status for Sunday's game against the Titans is still up in the air. The 49ers nose tackle suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday's 32-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals and didn't finish the game. Fangio said it is still a wait and see or Dorsey, who didn't practice on Wednesday.
If Dorsey is out, the 49ers could make a move to add another NT to the 53-man roster to add depth. Fifth-round draft pick Quinton Dial had his first practice in a 49ers uniform yesterday while coming of a toe injury. Mike Purcell, an undrafted rookie who is on the practice squad could also be promoted.
The 49ers announced they have waived WR/TE Chris Harper, which leaves a roster spot open for one of the two players. Tony Jerod-Eddie is the only backup NT currently on the 53-man roster. With the release of Harper, it looks like Dial or Purcell could be added to the roster later this week. Fangio said Purcell currently has the upper hand due to the fact he participated in the entire offseason OTAs, minicamp and training camp.
DE Tank Carradine also practiced for the first time yesterday, but was limited as he is coming off a torn ACL. With his injury being more serious and the 49ers having a need for a NT, it doesn't look like he will be added to the 53-man roster this week.
