Jim Harbaugh, coach of the San Francisco 49ers, is making fashion waves with his unique sense of style. The coach is opting for a more comfortable set of pants...$8 pleated khakis from Wal-Mart. His wife, not wanting to get blamed for his fashion fumble, called into a radio station to set the record straight. In the interview she says she did NOT encourage him to buy these pants, and as the Washington Post reports, she frequently tries to throw them away.
Now everyone wants to get in on the action!
Twitter is abuzz with people commenting on Jim’s choice of pants, and Banana Republic hopped on the bandwagon by campaigning for a new choice of pants with the hashtag #chinosforjim. Wal-Mart’s took the opposite approach and featured the pants on their homepage saying “Coach Worthy Khakis: Fit for a Champion, Priced for Everyone."
They say before you judge someone, to walk a mile in their shoes. How about walking a mile in his pants? Spencer Hall from SB Nation decided to test out Jim’s pants for himself by visiting his local Wal-Mart. We can’t say his findings were shocking. Overall, Spencer found that the pants fit terribly, were made out of horrible fabric, and the name of the brand is...interesting, “The brand: GEORGE. That's the name of Wal-Mart’s men's line: Just, GEORGE, like the biggest, blandest man on the planet, whose goal in clothing is to 'not be naked.'"
What do you think of his fashion choice? Is it smart that he buys cheap clothes for a cheap price? Or should he be spending a little more on his wardrobe? After all, he is the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Regardless of Hall’s review of Wal-Mart’s pants and Banana Republic’s campaign for #chinosforjim, it seems like Jim will be sticking by Wal-Mart and his $8 pants.
