With the San Francisco 49ers officially getting all the necessary funds for their new stadium in Santa Clara, president and CEO Jed York held a conference call with the media to talk about the next steps for the stadium.
There were a lot of nuggets from the conference call and I'll list them off in bullet points.
- "It is a big step," York said. "This is going to be a big thing for everybody."
55,000 seats have yet to be priced and York promised that it would be affordable tickets for the general public. - He confirmed that with the NFL financing the $200 million, that he was glad the league was behind the new stadium.
- Naming rights have yet to be determined. Also, York said that there have not been any kind of "meaningful talks" with the Raiders about sharing the stadium. Both teams are not obligated to share the stadium. All loans and responsibilities are all on the 49ers if something were to go wrong.
- York hopes to meet with all season ticket holders so they know what options they have. Within a few months, he hopes, pricing then will be set for the general public.
- The next hurdle for the team now is the groundbreaking and start of construction. York knows that a 2015 opening is for certain, but remains optimistic that the stadium might be ready a year earlier.
- Despite playing in Santa Clara, York said that they will still remain connected to San Francisco and will do many things with the team's origin city.
