49ers bring back McBath

On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers announced the re-signing of safety Darcel McBath to a one-year contract.

The 27-year-old appeared in all 19 regular season and playoff games for the 49ers, playing primarily on special teams where he registered nine total tackles in 307 snaps.

McBath was a second round draft pick (48th overall) out of Texas Tech by the Denver Broncos in 2009 where he played under current 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell.

He played briefly for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011 after being released by the Broncos.

In 31 regular season games, McBath has 33 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass deflections.

Though not at the top of the depth chart, he is expected to compete with recently signed free agent Craig Dahl and a top draft pick for the starting free safety position vacated by Dashon Goldson now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
