Veterans Joe Nedney and Eric Heitmann were released by the 49ers
“We would like to thank Eric and Joe for their contributions to the 49ers organization and wish them and their families all the best,” Trent Baalke, 49ers general manager said in a statement. “Eric gave us nine tremendous years of service to the franchise and the Bay Area community. As a leader in the locker room, he epitomized what the 49ers strive to achieve.”
Heitmann won the Bob McKittrick award three times as the team’s outstanding lineman who exemplifies dedication, excellence, and commitment.
Joe Nedney, a 15-year veteran and San Jose State graduate, played 86 games for the 49ers. He joined the team in 2005 and is ranked third in the NFL, connecting on 86.6 percent of his field goals as a ‘niner.
Additionally, he never missed a PAT as a 49er.
“Joe is a consummate pro in every sense” Baalke would say about the longtime NFL veteran.
Thus far, Nedney has 1113 career points connecting on 256 of 319 field goals, and 345 of 348 PATS.
David Carr, back-up quarterback, and Nate Clements, a defensive back, were also released by the 49ers.
The 49ers added former Sacramento State and Sabercats QB, McLeod Bethel-Thompson to their roster.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson had signed with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League in the spring of 2011, and he appeared in 12 games and completed 20 of 43 pass attempts for 220 yards, three touchdowns and one interception this past season.
