48 Hour Film Fest set for first weekend in May

Mark your calendars Washington D.C. metro area filmmakers. The 48 Hour Film Project is set for the weekend of May 2nd this year.

Sign up to test your skill at making the best short film in two days. On Friday night, the festival assigns teams a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre that must be included in the movie.

Forty-eight hours later, the film is due. The winning film from the D.C. contest will compete with top films produced by filmmakers in 120 cities around the world.

The deadline for early bird registration at $140 is April 7th. The fee for regular registration at $160 is due by April 22nd. The registration fee after that date increases to $175. This year, the project will accept teams on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the initial registration is complete, the festival adds teams to a waiting list.

Film screenings will take place the following week, May 8th through May 11th, at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring.
