45th anniversary of Beatles concert celebrated at Dodger Stadium

On Friday night, August 26, Dodger Stadium celebrated the first of two Beatles nights in recognition of the 45th anniversary of The Beatles concert in Los Angeles back on August 28, 1966. The Beatles were featured throughout the baseball game with pictures and videos on the big stadium screens and promoter Bob Eubanks, who booked The Beatles LA concert, was there to throw out the ceremonial first pitch with his son.

At the end of the night, Friday Night Fireworks at the stadium was set to all Beatles music. The songs played were from the soundtrack to The Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil show currently playing in Las Vegas. On Tuesday night, Cirque du Soleil will be performing the "Drive My Car" number from LOVE before the baseball game. (For ticket info, visit www.dodgers.com/LOVE)

Deborah Soroky, who grew up in Los Angeles, attended the 1966 Beatles concert at Dodger Stadium as an 11-year-old and felt very emotional returning 45 years later to celebrate the event. Displaying her original concert ticket, she recalled her childhood memories of seeing The Beatles in person for the second time. She had been to The Beatles Hollywood Bowl show in 1965.

"I remember that the Beatles' stage was located on second base. I had every intent of acting grown-up and not screaming during the show, but as soon as The Beatles appeared, I couldn't help myself, and ended up screaming throughout the entire show. I had nosebleed seats, but remember coming down and waving my scarf when Paul sang 'Yesterday.'"

While the concert was a great memory for fans, it wasn't the best of nights for The Beatles. The Beatles had trouble leaving the stadium since there was no secure exit and the fans kept mobbing their vehicle. In the end, the Hells Angels had to escort The Beatles out.

This nightmarish incident undoubtedly played a role in The Beatles' decision to stop touring. The Dodger Stadium concert would be The Beatles' second to last concert, right before the final show at Candlestick Park one night later.
