The 44th edition of the historic Dove Awards delighted a full house at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena who came to enjoy the live performances, tributes, and finding out who this year's winners would be, and Examiner was on the red carpet and behind the scenes.
Hosted by Amy Grant and Kirk Franklin, the event featured performances by some of gospel music's favorite artists. Even the preshow ceremonies got celebrity treatment as they were hosted by Jamie Grace and Chris August.
Many of the evening's winners were also among the performers at the awards show making it a star-studded event, complete with a red carpet. Performers and speakers who appeared at this year's show included Amy Grant, Gaither Vocal Band, Kirk Franklin, Michael W. Smith, Tamela Mann, TobyMac, Jaci Velasquez, Lecrae and Pastor Rick Warren. Between performances and awards, entertainers like Chonda Pierce kept the audience entertained.
Some of this year's winners included: Matt Redman's Song of the Year for "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord);" Songwriter of the Year, Contemporary Christian Performance for "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord);" TobyMac for Artists of the Year; New Artist of the Year to for King and Country; Southern Gospel Performance for Jason Crabb's "What The Blood Is For" and Producer of the Year to Ed Cash.
Multiple awards went to Matt Redmond who took home 6 Doves, followed by TobyMac and Jason Crabb with 4 each, Tasha Cobb and producer Wayne Haun with 3 each and Chris Tomlin, Tamela Mann and LaCrea who scored 2 awards each.
GMA Executive Director Jackie Patillo who referred to herself as "the mother of the Dove Awards" in the press room said of the evening, "What an amazing night of music and honor. Tonight's performances were all a testament to why we are all here. On behalf of membership of the GMA, we are proud to present this year's Dove winners and congratule each of them and the nominees on their achievements. We would also like to thank the city of Nashville for welcoming us back home and to the wonderful host for the evening, Lipscomb University."
The Dove Awards show will be broadcast on Monday, Oct. 21st at 8:00P.M./EDT on UP.
