The 43rd Annual Septemberfest is being held in Schaumburg on Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1-2, 2013. The three day fest opens on Sat. and runs Sun. and Mon. in Schaumburg, in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, Ill.. Following are highlights of the weekend festival. The late summer festival is a large community fest that features an arts and crafts show with 250 exhibitors, bingo tent, carnival rides, pony rides, fireworks, local entertainment, Main Stage entertainment, Miss Septemberfest Competition, Taste of Schaumburg, a Labor Day Parade and much more.
Carnival Wristband hours are on Sun. (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and Mon. (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.). The wristbands includes all rides for $20 within the specified hours.
Free pony rides are offered on Sat. (12 noon - 5 p.m.) The pony rides are sponsored by Heritage Bank Schaumburg.
The fireworks show is on Sun. at 10 p.m.. In the case of rain, the rain date is Mon. at 9 p.m. The fireworks display is sponsored by by Renewal by Andersen
Taste of Schaumburg features food from 25 area village selling a variety of foods and beverages on Sat. and Sun.. A large selection of food is available in the food tent, with diverse dishes including pizza, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, Brazilian food, Chinese and Mandaran cuisine, Thai food, BBQ, chocolate fondue and more.
Food is offered by not-for-profit groups on Mon., which is Not-for Profit Day. Approximately 25 groups sell food and beverages to raise funds for their causes.
There is local entertainment in the On the Dining Tent Music Stage and on the Prairie Center Music Stage. The Main Stage features nationally known acts on the Miller Lite Music Stage. Headliners at the Main Stage include:
- Sat.: The Stray Cat - Lee Rocker (8:30-10 p.m.)
- Sun.: Former lead guitarist of Boston Fran Cosmo (6:30 -8 p.m.) and former lead vocalist of Journey Steve Augeri (8:30-10 p.m.).
- Mon.: 7th Heaven (7:30-9 p.m.)
The Schaumburg Shuffle, by the Rotary Club of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates is a 5K Run (and Kid’s 1K) on Mon. at 8 a.m..
Monday is the Labor Day holiday, which is celebrated by a parade that begins at 9:30 a.m. The parade marshal is the Schaumburg Park District, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The parade moves south to north on Summit Dr. from Wise Rd. to Stock Port Ln. Traffic will be blocked off in the area from 8 a.m..
Septemberfest is free to attend. Septemberfest is at the Municipal Center and Prairie Center, at the intersection of Summit Drive and Schaumburg Road. festival grounds are spread out on uneven surfaces and grassy areas, so people with mobility problems may find it difficult to navigate the walks between areas. Free shuttle bus service is available to Septemberfest from the parking area.
