After Rajesh Jain stopped for a quick bite to eat inside an Orlando restaurant, he made a horrible discovery. His three pouches containing $400,000 in diamonds were gone. Jain, 47, is a diamond wholesaler and he said he was in town to do some business.
On Jan. 15, the Orlando Sentinel said the $400,000 diamond theft happened around 7 p.m. and it took the thief less than 15 minutes to snag the diamonds from Jain's locked car.
According to police, the thief also stole three blank checks. Sgt. Jim Young, spokesman for the Orlando Police Department says,
"It is too early in the investigation for investigators to say if it's likely that the thief knew the diamonds were in the bag....We don't know if the victim was specifically targeted or if this was just random crime where a thief took the bag without knowing what was in it."
The $400,000 diamond theft comes as a tremendous blow to the New Jersey diamond wholesaler. "I lost everything," he said.
As of this report, police haven't named any suspects but they are investigating fingerprints that were found on the car.
