You’ve heard of snakes on a plane, so how about 40 pythons in a motel room? That’s how many pythons police found crowded into a motel room, along with two adults and two children, UPI reported on Aug. 16.

The 40 pythons in the motel room were discovered Thursday evening at the Bell City motel in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The 40 pythons weren’t roaming freely around the motel room but were found crammed into four large plastic bins, suffering from dehydration and distress because of overcrowding.

There also was concern about the welfare and safety of the two children found with the 40 pythons in the motel room, CNN reported. The Children's Aid Society of Brant was investigating the welfare of the children, Brantford Police Sgt. Cheney Venn told CNN.

The couple who owned the 40 pythons apparently checked into the motel room a few days before the snakes were discovered. CNN said that they had been evicted from their previous residence.

The 40 pythons in the motel room were apparently used for breeding and were identified as ball pythons. The pythons ranged in size from 1 foot to 4.5 feet long. The pythons were taken by the county’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

While the incident of 40 pythons in a motel room might seem humorous, having large pythons around children can be dangerous.

Earlier this month, two young boys were suffocated and killed in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada, by an African rock python, one of the world's largest snakes, when the python escaped from a pet shop and crashed through the roof of an apartment where the boys were sleeping.
