The 40 pythons had been neglected and were in a poor condition, according to police.
Concerned, they called the SPCA who supported reptiles. An examination by a veterinarian revealed that the animals will most likely regain their health.
"The snakes were not being suitably cared for and were in distress. The anxious officers called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals who attended and took 40 pythons into their care," local police said in a statement.
Security issues surrounding snakes made headlines since the death of two children on August 5 in Campbellton, New Brunswick. The two small children were suffocated by an African python of more than 3.5 meters long.
It is illegal to possess a python in Brantford.
