People all over the world have been awed by his ability to turn the ordinary mundane things of this world into creative tales of horror woven into the scenes of everyday life. His books have sold in the millions and are good reads. Here are three Stephen King novels to read in the New Year.

What's it about?

Joyland, is a short novel, King wrote for the Hard Core Crime Series. The novel is narrated by Devin Jones, a college student and the novel's main character, who after his sophomore year ventures off to a summertime job at Joyland, a small amusement park in Heaven's Bay, North Carolina. There he and his two new friend spend the summer trying to solve the mystery of the murder in the “Funhouse.” Along the way Devin finds romance and a desire to stick around a little longer.

What's to love?
Kings book cannot be summed up in one genre because it ends up being a murder mystery, a King supernatural, a young love story and a carny guidebook all wrapped in one. The book is a fun read but an oh two short of one.

What's it about?

In 11/23/63 King delves into the Kennedy assassination but in pure Stephen King fashion.
In an old run down diner in the town of Lisbon Falls, Maine lies a gateway to the past. Al Templeton the owner of the local diner is dying . He explains to Jake Epping, an English teacher at the local high school the mechanics and rules for using the gateway which is located in the pantry at the back of restaurant.

He then asks Jake to go back in time to finish the job he started, stopping the JFK assassination. At first Epping balks at the idea but then re-evaluates his life and agrees to step through the portal. What ensues is a page turner that any Stephen King fan or even those borderline fans will enjoy.

What's to love
While the book is a classic Stephen King scifi thriller one of the best part of book is the love story which he weaves throughout the pages. At times love story takes center stage which is not a bad thing. The dialogue between Epping and Oswald are also very interesting.

Under The Dome
What's it about?

Under the Dome, is another Stephen King scifi thriller. At 11:44 AM on Saturday October 21 of an unspecified year sometime after 2012 the small town of Chester's Mills, Maine is completely sealed off by a dome. What ensues is a scenes of a town and society, when cut off from the outside world, that completely unravels both emotionally and spiritually as they try to figure out who put the dome there and why..

The town of Chester's Mills goes from being a quaint little town in the country, to a town where the rules of the outside world don't apply.

What's to love
One of the best parts of this book are the characterizations. Stephen King once does a great job of taking everyday normal people and seeing how they react to what amounts to an alien psychological experiment. This book also should not be confused with the television series, while the name is the same the plot lines do differ.

Doctor Sleep
What's it about?
Doctor Sleep is a sequel of sorts to an earlier Stephen King book the Shining. While trying to shed the memories of his father and the one year he spent with him at the Overlook hotel Dan meets a Avra Stone, a girl with a gift called “The Shining” which makes her the target of a group called the True Knot who want Avra for her gift.

What entails is an epic battle between good and evil.

What's to love
Doctor Sleep is a book which lets King's avid fans know that he still hasn't lost his touch. Like a chef in the kitchen King knows how to throw together all the right ingredients in order to create a teasingly wonderful delight.
