Four police officers were shot and killed in cold blood Sunday morning while they sat in a coffee shop in a Seattle suburb.
The officers appeared to be targeted and the victims of an ambush.
The shooting took place uncomfortably close to McChord Air Force Base, which went on alert as the first reports came in.
Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News Tribune that the gunman got away.
A manhunt is ongoing.
Troyer said the police officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their laptops out, ready to start their day shift, when the shooter came in and opened fire.
It was not a robbery - the officers appeared to have been targeted.
"It was just a flat out ambush," he said.

Dollars to doughnuts, this was a targeted attack, by a 'revert' (Muslim convert) ex-con. Unless they're fleeing custody, or something, regular criminals don't kill cops--a costly (in terms of police wrath) undertaking. The perp's description--Afro-American male, 'scruffy' appearance (i.e., BEARDED?)--is consistent with the sorts that Saudi-funded, Salafi Muslim jihadi groups troll for in jails.
With it's proximity to the Air Force base, this may have been a ploy to take the local police force out of circulation, in anticipation of another Fort Hood-style attack. There, ironically, it took CIVILIAN first-responders, on a heavilly-armed (albeit, locked away in armouries) military base. If I was the MP commandant on McChord AFB, I'd be cracking the locks on the gun cabinet doors right now, and putting an AR-15 in the hands of every soldier right now.
