3OH!3 on their way to the 505 for Streets of Gold tour

Electropop duo 3OH!3 is about to unleash their contagious, frat-boy themed tracks on Albuquerque at a sold out show at the Sunshine Theater Wednesday night. After teaming up with Ke$ha (who also has a symbol in her name) and Katy Perry on their latest releases, 3OH!3 has been touring to promote their album Streets of Gold, which was released in June of this year. Their first single off the album, My First Kiss, featured Ke$ha, who also helped with the writing.

While Albuquerque certainly seems to have embraced the band, the debate continues to rage over whether 3OH!3 succeeds as an edgy, comedic, electropop duo, or if their music is simply offensive, misogynistic, and vapid. With lyrics like "Don't trust a ho" and "Shush girl shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips," it's easy to see why. Personally, I think the songs fall somewhere between crudely funny and stupid, but I like them anyway. Kind of the same way I enjoy Daniel Tosh and Ke$ha. Definitely guilty pleasures.

What fans may not realize is that those who arrive early to this 6pm show will be rewarded. Opening band Down With Webster is not to be missed. This explosively talented band from Canada has already achieved notoriety in their home to the North, and will undoubtedly connect with 3OH!3 fans. Some locals may have seen the band when they played at Launchpad last May on the Cute Is What We Aim For Spring 2010 tour. I had the pleasure of seeing them play on Saturday during the Streets of Gold tour stop in Vegas, and they brought it, hard. If you’re like me, you’ll watch the band perform their latest songs Whoa Is Me and It’s Time To Win, and before you know it you’ll have their CD on repeat on your iPod. They are that good.

The Streets of Gold tour stops at the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque on Wednesday night for a 6pm show. Don’t be late.
