On Saturday, October 24, there will be over 4,000 events in 170 countries for 350.org’s International Day of Climate Action, which is calling on leaders to reduce carbon levels in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million.

Environmentalist and author Bill McKibben calls 350 the most important number in the world—it’s the amount of carbon dioxide measured in parts per million that scientists say is safe for the planet. Currently, the atmosphere hold 387 parts per million.

In December world leaders will gather in Copenhagen to negotiate an international climate treaty, and organizers of the event on Saturday are encouraging people all over the globe to come out strongly for action on climate change.

Here in the Bay Area, there are plenty of things to choose from – a rally with Surfriders in downtown San Francisco, for example, or the movie Garbage Dreams at the Shattuck Cinema in Berkeley, which is part of the Arab Film Festival. Or you could stay home and see a Carbon-Neutral Online Concert Fundraiser from Artfulchange. It will feature the Jay Trainer Band, some other local musicians and visual artists. The concert will raise funds for the Energy Action Coalition.

So check out some of the events here. Pretty much anywhere you are in the Bay Area—or in the world—there will be something near you.
