The 34th Annual Hashathon 6 mile trail race will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 in Cheesequake State Park in Matawan, N.J.
The race is a tradition in the area coming the week after the NYC Marathon.
Sunday, November 10, Hashathon, Cheesequake State Park, Matawan, N.J.
The race is staged by the Jersey Shore Running Club in cooperation with the Rumson Hash House Harriers. Mark and Charolette Griggs of Wall, N.J have been the Race Directors of the event for the past several years.
There are plenty of volunteers along the course and Dave Demonico of Ocean Township will be playing his trumpet along the course and “Chickie” Ebers of Keyport will be playing his drums at the start and finish. Joe Hughes and Golden Seal are also expected to be on hand for the race and the post-race party.
Last year the race was postponed a few weeks due to Hurricane Sandy but the tradition and spirit of the race continued.
There is also a one mile fun run for the young ones and those who just want to get out for a nice run around the lake in the park.
The main 6 mile race is a challenging one. It will put to shame all those mud runs and Spartan runs. The course has natural obstacles with narrow trails and steep inclines making for a fun event. If it rains before or even during the runners are sure to come back with muddy shoes and more. So bring a change of clothes.
There are always neat custom awards for overall, age group as well as some fun awards like the most muddy or middle of the pack.
Afterwards the participants head over to a local fire house for a post-race party and lots of talk about their experience on the course.
Coming in first overall last year was 14 year old Robert Pederson of Brick, N.J. who trounced the competition in a time of 40:21. He was followed by Andy Fist in 41:01 and then Tim Riley in 41:15.
For the women it was Heather Fraebel age 16 of Whitehouse Station, N.J. in a time of 46:55. She was followed by past winner Lauren Rhatigan in 47:17 and then Stephanie Lafergola in 47:32.
Not to be out done by his teen age competitors Joe Labruno of Bayonne, N.J. age 82 finished in a respectable 1:34:10.
