34th annual Greek Festival in SLC

One of best things about the arrival of fall in Salt Lake City is the arrival of the annual Greek Festival at Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Salt Lake. "Kalos oreisete!" (Welcome)

Enjoy food, drink, arts, crafts, food, drink, food and drink at this four-day celebration highlighting the Greek culture, food and lifestyle. If you are new to the Greek Festival you won't want to miss the special food booths along the outer areas. Lamb on a spit, Greek fries and loukoumathes are just a few of the offers not found in the main food area. Also, I love the fact that the desserts get their own room every year and they are worth the time and money it takes to enjoy them. Favorites include the baklava and macaroons but everything is delicious and full of Greek love (see photo).

After having attended Greek Fest for over a decade, I finally learned a trick that I will share (and then it won't work anymore!). We have always gone early to beat the lunch crowd and ended up in huge lines. This year, we didn't go until 1 pm. Literally walked right up to the tray area and were seated at an empty table within 15 minutes of arriving. Wow!

Of course, good food and fun does come with a price and the Greek Festival isn't really cheap. It will cost $3 per person to get in the door (Zion's Bank e-mailed out 2-for-1 coupons so if you have them, use them). Food is sold a la carte and is on the expensive side but hey, this is a once a year event and sometimes it is just worth it!

The Greek Festival runs through Sunday, Sept. 13 and is located at 279 S. 300 West. Valet parking is available for $5 (a steal in my opinion) or you can try your luck at various meters and lots throughout downtown.
