The 34th Annual E. Murray Todd Half Marathon was held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 starting and finishing at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J.
The race is known for its “rolling” hills through picturesque back roads lined with horse farms and tree lined streets of the Lincroft section of Middletown and Colts Neck. There were 511 finishers.
The weather was a little chilly for the runners at the start but as they made their way through the course they were certain to warm up with not much wind along the way.
New winner were crowned this year.
Coming in first overall for the men was Rich Burke in 1:13:14 who led just about from start to finish and came in almost 3 minutes ahead of the second place finisher Robert Dennis who finished in 1:17:19. Coming in third was Patrick D’Alessandro in 1:17:36.
For the women it was Elizabeth Campbell coming in first in a time of 1:22:23. She was followed by Dactilla Booth in 1:25:48 and then Gabriel Benson in 1:27:31.
After the run several of the runners made their way over to Belmar to participate in the Annual Belmar/Lake Como Saint Patrick’s Day Parade wearing their official race shirts which were appropriately the color of the day - green.
For those looking for a fast a flat half in the spring registration is still open for the Asbury Park Half Marathon on April 26, 2014. The event was recently named as the best half marathon in New Jersey. Ira Wiss of the Jersey Shore Running Club was at the race distributing information to runners on the half marathon and other upcoming events. Patty Hancock of the Ocean Running Club was also on hand distributing information on the Seaside Half Marathon scheduled for October 2014.
