October, 2013 has less than two weeks remaining but there is still one more Oktoberfest scheduled before the month is through. This final Oktoberfest on the October, 2013 calendar is planned for this weekend and it is held about an hour south of the city of Houston. Here are the facts:
Event: Galveston Oktoberfest
Location: Downtown Galveston, near 24th Street and Winnie
Date and Time: Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday
Hosted by First Lutheran Church and co- sponsored by Del Papa Distributing, the Galveston Oktoberfest is an annual tradition on Galveston Island. Now in its 32nd year, this event is a family affair with food, fun, games and, of course, beer for the adults.
Galveston’s Oktoberfest will feature a German Sausage dinner, children’s activities, and live entertainment. Like in past years, the event will showcase numerous booths selling arts & crafts, specialty foods, and assorted beverages. Attendees can bid on items during a live auction while listening to performances from several different bands playing German music and other tunes.
The beer offerings this year will eclipse those of Oktoberfest events in the past and will include the expected German brews with some popular brands and several Texas craft beers. The taps will flow with beer such as:
- Paulaner Oktoberfest
- Paulaner Hefeweizen
- Hofbrau Oktoberfest
- Bud Light
- Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat
- Saint Arnold Oktoberfest
- Rahr & Sons
- Southern Star
There is no admission fee for the Galveston Oktoberfest. The event is wide open and easily accessible to all. Food, drinks, crafts, etc., are all purchased separately and it is a good idea to bring plenty of cash for these and other purchases.
The Galveston Oktoberfest is an annual tradition on the island and this year’s event is likely to be the largest ever thanks to recent expansion efforts. It’s a fun way to spend the afternoon/evening with great food, fun, and beer so mark your calendars and prepare for some German culture in Galveston this weekend.
