'300: Rise of an Empire' movie poster released

The first look at the upcoming "300" sequel has been unveiled. On Saturday, March 2 Comingsoon.net posted the first movie poster from the upcoming action thriller "300: Rise of an Empire" with the official logo. The logo for the sequel is very similar to the original film's logo as it appears artistically written in blood.

The film is expected to release sometime in 2013, but the poster does not include a specific release date. The action film is based on the 1998 comic book series by Frank Miller and the original film, directed by Zack Snyder.

"300: Rise of an Empire" will take place at the same time as the first film, which showed the epic battle of Thermopylae. The sequel will portray the story of Greek General Themistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton, who battled a great Persian army.

Directed by Noam Murro, "300: Rise of an Empire" was written and produced by Snyder, and has a tentative release date of August 2, 2013. Rodrigo Santoro returns to the role of Xerxes and joins newcomers Andrew Tiernan (Ephialtes), Eva Green (Artemisia), Andrew Pleavin (Daxos) and Hans Matheson. Check out the official Facebook page for the film for more information and a better look at the poster.
