3-year-old killed by garage door while playing in Waldorf (Photos)

The NBC News reported on April 6, 2013 that a 3-year-old girl was killed by closing the garage door on Friday in the 2900 block of Eutah Forest Drive in Waldorf.

According to the Charles County Sheriff's office, this incident occurred around 4:00 p.m.

A source reported that the incident happened as the girl was playing with the opener of the garage door which suddenly closed on her.

Although there were sensors in the garage door; however, upon investigations, the reason for the failure of the sensors could not be found. The investigators are performing some tests on the garage door to know what happened.

There were other people inside the home. On hearing the door closing, they rushed out to check.

The mother of the girl found her lying underneath. The incident was immediately reported to the police. The hospital declared her dead.

Initially, the police told that the girl was 5-years-old.

The Wusa9 website quoted Charles County Sheriff's spokesperson Diane Richardson saying, “The door came down and pinned her and ended up asphyxiating her.”

He added, “We're testing them now to see if there may have been any malfunctions.”
