Chicago police are discounting a published report that a car was being chased by another vehicle when it crashed into a pole and burst into flames, killing the three women inside.
The crash happened at 12:35 a.m. this morning on the 3000 block of West 47th Street.
All witness accounts so far indicate the driver was traveling westbound on 47th street at excessive speeds when she lost control and hit a light pole, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brian.
O'Brien says the department's Major Accidents team is investigating and there is no indication another car was involved.
There were several witnesses to the accident. They say after the car hit the pole, it burst into flames and there was little anyone could do to rescue the women inside.
The names and ages of the women have not been released.
In March, four women died in a high speed crash after their car hit a tree in the 1000 block of West Garfield in Chicago. At the time, it was the second quadruple fatal accident in the Chicago area in recent weeks.
