Everyone is creative in their own way. From creative problem solving to creating works of art.
What is Creativity?
In the book by Robert E. Franken, Human Motivation, he describes creativity as this:
To generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others.
How Creativity Helps Us Heal
Creativity is a transformational process. It helps to move our stuck and wounded energy within our body, mind, and spirit. As a result, we become balanced, more clear of our intentions, and begin to think and act in a more beneficial way.
3 Ways to Use Creativity to Heal
There are many ways to create in order to facilitate healing. Here are three simple ways to get started.
- Write- The topic of your writing really doesn't matter as long as you are writing. One simple way to write that brings about huge leaps in growth is described in The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. The technique is simple but usually comes with much resistance. The technique is simply to write first thing after waking or soon after. Take a journal or notebook and write 3 full pages. You may not have anything to say but write anyway. This is a mind dump so that you will have more clarity throughout your day. It is also a way to process emotions, situations, and relationships in a healthy way.
- Paint, draw, collage- Visual arts are another way to move the energy around. You don't have to be a professional artist to create amazing healing art. The healing comes in the process of creating. A simple way to use this technique is to find magazines. Cut or tear out words and images that uplift and speak to you. Glue them onto a poster board of any size. The finished collage is a wonderful meditation focus.
- Move your body- Yoga, dancing, running, walking are all ways to move that energy through your body. If you find yourself during the day feeling stuck, the best thing you can do is to move. You'll be surprised how refreshed and clear you will feel.
These 3 things are ways of producing healing within your life. Practicing creativity and focusing on the process of it, moves the energy not only in your body but also in your mind and spirit. When that energy is moved then balance is achieved and healing can take place.
