Three teenagers were shot after an argument between two groups at a house party erupted in a shootout in DeKalb County shortly after midnight Sunday.
So far, no one has been arrested in the shooting, which sent bullets flying into several other homes off Covington Highway in Decatur, according to DeKalb County police.
And police are trying to determine if the groups were rival gangs.
The investigation began around midnight Saturday after officers responded to 4883 Creekside Place after getting calls of shots being fired, police spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.
“Once officers arrived they found two victims suffering from gunshot injuries,” Ms. Parish said. “A third victim was later located at a local hospital.”
The conditions of the victims, who are between the ages of 16 and 19 years old, were unknown Monday. But their injuries are reportedly non-life-threatening.
“Detectives believe there was an altercation between two groups and at some point that altercation escalated,” Ms. Parish said. “It’s believed there was an exchange of gunfire between both groups.”
Investigators said the shootings occurred outside and some of the rounds entered into the home where the party was being held as well as some neighboring homes. It was unclear early Monday afternoon, how many homes were hit.
But residents told CBS Atlanta that five homes were hit, with bullets going inside some of them.
"It was to the point where they stopped shooting for a second and then they just let go again. They were just shooting everywhere. We literally had to get down in our own house," said Ms. Tamika Bledson, who lives two doors down and across the street from where the party was.
Ms. Bledson said one bullet went through the wall and right through her living room.
Her neighbor across the street had three bullets go through her garage, flattening a few of her car's tires, the news station reported.
“Detectives are looking into if the two groups were possible rival gangs,” Ms. Parish said.
