No matter what your business is, there is always an opportunity for “starting over” in the New Year. Most business owners do strategic planning and set goals and intentions. There is a feeling of promise and positive change.
Here are three tips to help any small business owner begin the year with more empowerment and clarity. They are a combination of strategy, values and focus.
1. Remember your purpose. Re-read your own mission statement. If you have never written a mission statement, this is a good time to do it. Your mission is your deeper purpose for what you want to accomplish. It isn’t about your products or services. It’s what you want to accomplish on a deeper level, and your purpose will help you to navigate forward. When you make decisions from your mission they will be more aligned and true.
2. Build community. All businesses are built on relationships, regardless of what you sell or what you offer. When business owners get busy they often feel they don’t have time to go out and be with people. However, your community will support you, will provide connection, camaraderie and will give you opportunities to give to others. Look to the next year as a time to build your community stronger. Get to know new businesses, find ways you can contribute or take a local workshop.
3. Live in the “Now.” Running a small business can be very stressful. Business owners are always looking at the future or evaluating the past. This is part of business planning and goal setting however, your power is always in the present moment. Focus on what you can do in each moment to take charge and find solutions. Keeping your focus on this moment will help you to stay positive and less stressed.
These three tips will take you into the New Year with renewed empowerment.
My new book Clear Your Focus, Grow Your Business talks more about this in Chapter 7.
