Detroit, Mich. - On Dec. 26, 2011, police announced that three of the four women found in vehicle trunks in the Detroit area are linked to free classified escort services on a Website called Backpage.com.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. warned the public at a news conference not to meet with anonymous individuals they've encountered online.
“Deciding to meet an unknown person via the Internet can be extremely dangerous,” he said.
According to the Detroit Free Press, two women were found burnt beyond recognition on Dec. 25, 2011 – Christmas morning – in the trunk of a burning car on the east side. Just a week prior, on Dec. 19, two other women – identified as Demesha Hunt, 24, and Renisha Landers, 23 – were found dead in the trunk of a car in the area.
Backpage.com is a Website at which items are bought and sold, but also carries personal ads.
