As the unofficial end to summer, Labor Day is filled with a variety of events and activities in New Orleans. While there is much to celebrate on the calendar, here are three music events to check out this Labor Day Weekend.
1. R. Kelly's Labor Day Weekend All White Party
To be held on Sunday, September 1 at 10 p.m., Affiliate Nation and a Cut Above Entertainment are hosting R. Kelly in New Orleans at the Hyatt Regency. Described as an "intimate event," attendees can expect to see R. Kelly perform some of his most loved hits, including his ongoing "Trapped in the Closet" series.
Tickets are listed for sale on Eventbrite, starting at $50 for general admission and being priced as high as $2,000 for platinum VIP.
Featuring five-days of events, Southern Decadence is known as one of New Orleans largest festivals. Celebrating the GLBT community, the weekend festival has several different music events that are worth seeing. On Sunday, September 1, enjoy a live radio show with Lance Bass from N'Sync at Bourbon Pub and Parade. Bourbon Pub and Parade will also host the closing party on Monday, September 2 with DJ Sean Michael.
3. The DeSantis Jazz Duo
Performing Thursday through Sunday, the DeSantis Jazz Duo offers a way to listen to authentic New Orleans jazz music without having to pay a cover. Located at the Four Points by Sheraton French Quarter, the group will play from 6 – 9 p.m. each evening. DeSantis Jazz Duo focuses on cool jazz, featuring Doc Sharp on piano and Jamie DeSantis on bass. Tuning in to their sounds is a great way to start your evening before hitting Bourbon Street for the night.
