Minneapolis has a music scene to be proud of. With tons of venues and live local and national bands scattered around the city’s bars and clubs nightly, it can be hard to decide where to find the best shows. With the holiday season upon us, why not take those out-of-town family members out on the town? Consider one of these three bars that have exciting shows coming up, even in the midst of a frigid Minnesota winter.
1. First Avenue
Debatably one of the most popular small concert venues in the Twin Cities, First Ave encapsulates the greatness of the Minneapolis music scene. With underground and mainstream artists alike, there is something for everyone at First Ave. Just this past week, First Ave welcomed Chance The Rapper and Mason Jennings. Check out the concert calendar to search for upcoming shows. Notable guests set to appear in the next month include local Minneapolis rock band The 4onthefloor on December 21st, and Nicholas David (seen on “The Voice”) on December 28th.
One bar that seems to be flying under the radar as far as live music is concerned is Icehouse, located on Eat Street in Uptown. If you’re into the “dinner and a show” type of thing, Icehouse is your place. With local live music just about every night at a slim-to-none cover charge, the Icehouse is sure to please. Peruse the impressive dinner and late-night snack menu, sit back, and enjoy. View upcoming events here.
3. Triple Rock Social Club
It’s easy to see that Triple Rock Social Club truly cares about local music. On Wendesday, December 18, the bar will be hosting a benefit called “So Marrow Minded!!” for Minnesota musician Kevin Williams (AKA Kevin Troy), who was diagnosed last year with acute myeloid leukemia, and is in desperate need of a bone marrow donor. The benefit will include a silent auction, many local bands, and several DJs. The venue is also open on Christmas night, and if you find yourself in the mood to sing, join Triple Rock for their annual “Xmas Staraoke!” For more information, check out the website!
