For many parents, a special little note is as important to packing a lunch as the sandwich and drink. Parents want to brighten their child's day with a note letting them know they are thinking about them. But, if you are not prepared, you may get in the rut of writing the same old phrase everyday.
Here are 3 ideas to spice up your child's lunch box love notes...
- Knock Em' Out- Even before school starts, run to the stationary store and grab some cute cards and stickers. Then, take one evening, after the kids are in bed, and write all of your notes for the year. Some ideas to put on the cards would be: a favorite memory with your child, a joke, a silly rhyme, an encouraging message, something you love about them, a drawing, a challenge, etc.
- Let the Pros Handle It- There is a fabulous website, www.sayplease.com, that does all of the hard work of lunch box notes for you. They are "The Home of Lunchbox Love- The Original Lunch Box Note". On this website, you can purchase notes that come in a pack of 12 per Volume for around $2.99. You can also purchase a boxed set, say Volumes 1-16, at a discounted rate. They offer lunch box love notes for, "kids, everyone, seasonal, and back to school". Each colorful note has an encouraging message on one side, and a fun fact on the other side.
- Make It Educational- A devoted mom of three from Atlanta, Georgia takes time each morning to write a few site words and math problems on her preschoolers napkins. This gives her kids a challenge each day at lunch, and something to do if they finish early. When she picks them up, they pull out the napkin and read aloud the words and tell her their math answers. This idea can be used with all ages. If your older child is having a test in school, give them a review of the material they are struggling with on their lunchbox napkin (just remind them to leave it in the cafeteria!)
However you choose to send love in a lunchbox, know that it warms your child's heart. Even if your 8th grader says it's embarrassing, they still like to know that you're thinking of them and love them.
