Mornings can be a very stressful time of day. Trying to get everyone up, ready, and out the door on time can be a source of great frustration. With a little forethought and practice you can start having mornings that flow easier. Here are three easy steps to a better morning:
First Step- Prepare
Set everything out the night before. Kids like having jobs to do. It makes them feel big and important. Let them choose what they are going to wear the night before. This way there is more time to be able to teach them how to match their clothes.
Second Step- Routine
Set a routine. Get up, go potty, get dressed. Make it a song they can sing. This helps them know what to do next without you telling them every time.
Third Step- Consistency
Follow the routine consistently. The more you practice the better you become.
In the afternoon or evening, talk with your child about what they do in the morning. Have them help you set the routine or order they do things. Even a two year old can be successful with getting themselves ready if you teach them how. Just remember when a child learns to walk they don’t do it on their first try - it takes time, patience, and a lot of practice. Keep talking about the routine and what is coming next and before you know it your child will be getting up and getting themselves ready.
