3 Date ideas for long distance relationships (Photos)

Anyone who is involved in a long distance relationship knows the feeling of jealousy they get when they are out somewhere and see couples enjoying each other’s company on a date. Dating is one of the barriers that are present in long distance relationships, and for some couples it is a hard one to get over. In fact, some couples let the thought of not being able to go out on dates affect them so much that they decide to end the relationship. These couples fail to realize that there are some creative ways to have dates even if they are separated by hundreds and thousands of miles.

Going to the Movies

Lots of couples love going to see a movie together and then afterward rehashing the movie over coffee or a couple of beers. The thought of watching a movie might seem impossible when so much distance separates two people; however, with a little bit of creativity this date idea is very possible.

It is likely that a couple in a long distance relationship lives in two different time zones. That means movie times will not be the same for each person. The way this date idea works is, the couple will choose a movie they would both like to see that is starting at around the same time for both time zones. Once the movie is agreed upon, one person will go and see the movie at the chosen time and then the other person will go see it at their chosen time. When both people have watched the movie they call each other on the phone and discuss the movie together. If the couple would like to have coffee or beer sitting in front of them, then using Skype to video chat while discussing the movie will also work.

Cooking Together

Couples who live together usually love spending time in the kitchen cooking their favorite meals together. Since we are talking about cooking together from a long distance we must again get creative in order for this date idea to work.

The first step in this idea is to pick out a recipe that both people want to try. Make an effort to choose something that neither person has ever cooked before so that it will be a fun experience for both parties. Next, the couple will choose a night that they will both be free to have a cooking date on. When the date is set, the couple will call each other on the phone and either use speaker phone to communicate or a Bluetooth headset. It is best to have free hands so nobody accidently drops their phone in a boiling pot of water and the cooking experience goes smoother.

While preparing the meal the couple should talk to each other about what they are doing and any problems they are running into. They should also share any secrets they know about how to do something easier or faster while cooking.

Once the meal is done all phones should be put away so that the real date can begin. The couple should take out their webcams and start a video chat. It is best if the webcams are set up across the table from where each person is sitting so that it will seem as if the person is actually sitting there eating the meal that was just prepared together.

Game Night

A lot of couples have set up a game night where they sit down and play board games and other types of games together. Some like to compete against each other while others like working together in the game they are playing. Creative long distance couples could likely find a way to play board games together, but there is just no way to find out if someone is cheating when the pieces cannot be seen!

Thanks to advancements in technology there are a lot of online versions of popular games that couples can play over the internet. Websites such as MSN and Yahoo have a great selection of games that couples might find interesting to play online, but there are also games available in the Android and iTunes markets that are more updated. Alternatively, Xbox and Playstation both have games that people can play together using an internet connection. Of course, both people must own these consoles and the games that they want to play.

The key to this type of date is to find a game that both people can play at the same time. Choosing a game where one person goes and then has to wait for the other person to go will not make for a very interesting date. On the other hand, playing games where both people get to play at the same time will create either a competitive conversation or a teambuilding conversation.

There are a ton of great date ideas for a long distance relationship out there if a couple is creative enough to discover them. Just because two people are separated by a significant distance does not mean they cannot have dates. In fact, the types of dates mentioned could help a couple grow closer to each other than they would if they went on normal dates with people that live close to them.
