3 Apps for Bright Smiles & Dental Care

We certainly want all children to have healthy smiles, and this year Teach for America and Colgate have partnered to help. Using school Picture Day as a time to remember the important topic of dental care their efforts include a variety of initiatives, from oral health curriculum to mobile dental clinics. As an educator, I think this school-based program is to be applauded.

Knowing that dental health impacts a child’s school attendance, self-esteem, and availability for learning, I too would like to join in this effort by selecting 3 fun apps that promote tooth brushing routines in childhood. You might also like to read bit of my recent interview with a Colgate representative.

Q: My app development team has several children’s photo apps on the market designed to help kids share their smiles, learning, and creativity with family. Does the Colgate “Smile for Picture Day” curriculum include guidance that you can share with families, to help keep those smiles healthy?

A: Yes, in fact the cornerstone of Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® is its award winning educational curriculum. Developed by global experts, Colgate’s educational materials help illustrate how to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Free program materials, online tutorials and interactive games are available for download at www.ColgateBSBF.com. Parents can teach their children the importance of proper oral hygiene in a fun and creative way with the help of the materials available on Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures website.

Try these fun toothbrushing apps with your children:

1. Pepi Bath (by Pepi Play) puts the fun of tooth-brushing at a virtual sink with other sudsy tasks. In addition to tooth brushing this charming app empowers players to help clean & hang laundry, trim fingernails, use hygiene at the toilet, and take a delightful bubble bath.

2. StarTeeth (by Fungamental Labs) is a timer-app that gives toddlers and young kids a dozen cute tooth-brushing characters (such as a superhero & gingerbread man) to help them develop a sense for the 2 minute timeframe recommended by dentists for thorough brushing routines. Tap
“info” for helpful facts on this topic.

3. Brush Your Teeth With Funny Animals (by Happy Touch) offers fun while brushing the teeth of a cute doggie, bunny, and horse (horse is free of purchase). Players can select dietary items then use both toothpaste and toothbrush to help care for these animals. I especially like the way the animals get cheery as they are brushed and that the timer is adjustable for toddlers.
