Aldermanic Candidates promoted Participatory Budgeting at City Hall on Monday, February 25 2013: Lisa Miller who's running against incumbent Jennifer Florida in the 15th ward, Michelle Hutching-Medina running against incumbent Tammika Hubbard in the 5th ward and Michelle Whitthaus who's running in the 6th ward special election. Alderwomen Triplett's resignation led to the special election. Mike Jones and Christine Ingrassia are the other two Democrats in 6th ward the primary.
Advocates promote Participatory Budgeting process as a way to get the community involve the decision making on what projects are prioritized and how the money is being spent. Communities in New York City will be exchanging ideas on proposed projects between September of 2012 and April 2013 in the New York's Participating Budgeting process. Advocates pointing to Participating Budget projects that been around since 1989 to show where it has worked.
